Gartner Recognizes Venn in BYO-PC Security Category

Ronnie Shvueli

The office has expanded far beyond four walls, and so has the device footprint. Today, many employees, contractors, and consultants rely on their own laptops to get work done. This shift to BYO-PC (Bring Your Own PC) has clear benefits for flexibility and cost, but also introduces a serious security gap. Personal PCs are harder for IT to control and secure, yet they still access sensitive company apps and data.

Gartner recently highlighted this reality by adding BYO-PC Security to its 2025 Hype Cycle for Workspace Security — and named Venn among the sample vendors addressing this challenge.

What is BYO-PC Security?

In the latest Gartner® Hype Cycle™ for Workspace Security, BYO-PC Security is listed as an early mainstream category with a high benefit rating.

Gartner defines BYO-PC Security as:

Security strategies and technologies that allow personally owned PCs (typically Windows and macOS, and less commonly ChromeOS or Linux) to safely access enterprise applications and company data.

In plain terms, BYO-PC Security ensures employees can use their own laptops for work without putting company systems at risk.

Why This Matters

Gartner points out that traditional operating systems like Windows and macOS lack the built-in security controls of mobile devices. That gap leaves enterprises vulnerable if unmanaged devices connect without the right protections in place.

Without a BYO-PC security strategy, organizations risk:

  • Data loss from unmanaged or insecure devices
  • Exposure to malware introduced through personal endpoints
  • Compliance failures in regulated industries

At the same time, Gartner notes that individuals will continue to use personal devices regardless of policy. Organizations that embrace structured BYOPC programs can enable employees while keeping business data protected.

The Business Impact of BYO-PC Security

According to Gartner, organizations that implement BYO-PC Security can:

  • Extend secure access to unmanaged devices while minimizing risk
  • Support contractors, consultants, and temporary workers more efficiently
  • Reduce hardware provisioning costs and IT logistics
  • Balance employee flexibility with compliance requirements

Why BYOPC Security is Gaining Traction Now

Gartner identifies several drivers behind the growing adoption of BYO-PC Security:

  • Remote and hybrid work have expanded the number of unmanaged devices accessing company apps and data
  • Cloud and SaaS applications make BYO-PC access more common
  • Credential theft and malware threats demand stronger authentication and device controls
  • Privacy regulations require nuanced solutions that protect data without overreaching into personal devices
  • Cost pressures are pushing organizations to move away from issuing and managing company-owned laptops

At the same time, Gartner notes that selecting a BYO-PC solution is complex and requires balancing isolation, user privacy, compliance, and IT overhead.

Venn: A Recognized Leader in BYO-PC Security

Venn’s Blue Border™, powered by Secure Enclave technology, delivers on Gartner’s vision for BYOD laptop Security:

  • Runs locally on any unmanaged or BYOD PC or Mac — no hosting, no virtualization
  • Isolates and protects business data and apps from personal use
  • Enforces security and compliance policies at all times
  • Respects user privacy by leaving the personal side of the device untouched
  • Works seamlessly with existing security, IAM, and productivity tools

With Venn, organizations can enable secure, compliant BYOD laptop programs in minutes – without the high costs and complexity of shipping hardware or standing up VDI.
